Thursday October 30th 2008 Privy Dig
It was just Doug and I today we decided to give that block me and John had dug in last week a try just because they were woodliners. We picked the pit on the other side of the alley from the one John and I had dug. This one probed no better but since we had nothing else to dig we opened it up. It had a close line pole in the corner of it which had to be removed. As we dug this pit down there were no signs of age then coming up the sides at about 5 feet was some loam mixed with 1880s shards. By 6 feet this gave way to a two foot thick layer of 1880s bottles and artifacts including a browns Iron Bitters a stoneware Baltimore beer and a large Cobalt poison and lots of local druggists and meds. This pit was a couple feet deeper and didn't get the total cleaning like the other one.
